Fuel filter - renewalFuel system: single-point injection models / Fuel filter - renewal
Warning: Observe the
precautions in Section 1 before
working on any component in
the fuel system.
Removal
1 The fuel filter is mounted behind the fuel
tank, at the rear of the vehicle. Access is from
the underside of the vehicle.
2 Refer to Section 9 and depressurise the fuel system.
3 Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the handbrake, select first gear and chock the front roadwheels. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on axle stands (see “Jacking and vehicle support”).
4 Clamp off the fuel lines using proprietary hose clamps - do not use a G-clamp or any similar tool, as the flat jaws may pinch the hose and damage the walls internally (see Tool Tip).
5 Slacken the hose clips and disconnect the fuel lines from either side of the filter unit (see illustration). If the clips are of the crimp type, snip them off with cutters and replace them with equivalent size worm drive clips upon reconnection.
6.5 Slacken the hose clips and disconnect the fuel lines from either side of
the filter
6 Release the filter retaining ring by slackening the upper clamp bolt, then lower the filter unit away from its mounting bracket.
Note: The fuel accumulator also contains a filter element, but this has a coarse mesh and should not require renewal except in extreme circumstances, e.g. after exposure to contaminated fuel.
Refitting
7 Refitting is a reversal of removal. Note the
direction of flow arrow marked on the side of
the filter unit casing - this must point towards
the engine when fitted (see illustration).
